Coaching at Stand Strong
Here at Stand Strong, we pride ourselves in our ability to help you on many levels so you can live life to the fullest as your strongest, healthiest, very best self. Whether you’re a student athlete with big performance goals, a busy mom or dad finding your way to health amidst the chaos, or a career professional seeking the next level both personally and professionally, we can help!
We offer fitness and training, of course, but we also have top notch nutrition coaching and life coaching services from our certified coaches, too.
We realize that “coaching” may be a confusing term at a fitness facility. A fitness trainer coach, a nutrition coach, and a life coach all have different areas of expertise yet work together under the same roof here at Stand Strong (and yes, are sometimes the same people all rolled into one!).
Fitness coaching is pretty clear – we’re the ones who train you physically, whether it’s in group fitness, personal training, or student athlete training.
The distinction between nutrition coaching and life coaching is a little less clear, so we’ve put together this article to differentiate the two services.
NUTRITION Coaching
Nutrition Coaching is for the client who wants to focus specifically on improving how they fuel their bodies with food and drink. In nutrition coaching, your personal goal might be to lose weight, gain muscle, or simply to fuel your body better for your workouts without stepping on the scale.
We don’t push one specific “diet” or way of eating. Instead, we work with you to find what food plan will help you reach your goals in a sustainable and enjoyable way.
Nutrition coaching helps answer questions like:
- How much protein should I be eating?
- How many calories should I have daily?
- How can I lose weight without counting calories?
- What do I need to eat to lose weight?
- What do I need to eat to gain muscle?
- What do I need to eat and drink to perform better in my sport?
- How can I meal prep and plan ahead to reach my goals?
We might work on eating more slowly and mindfully, reading and understanding food labels, or eating higher-quality carbs (because yes, you DO need carbs in your life, but the kind of carbs makes a big difference!). We might experiment with new foods or upgrade certain items on your menu to fuel you better.
Nutrition coaching will ultimately help you evaluate, learn, and improve foundational nutrition skills so you can look and feel your best and find a sustainable way to fuel yourself well.
Changing the way you eat can feel daunting and overwhelming, so we start small with specific action steps and build from there. We have follow-up sessions to identify what’s working, troubleshoot what’s not working, and keep you accountable to your goal.
We also help you identify how to best track your progress. The InBody Scan is a quick and non-invasive body scan that shows your percent body fat, muscle mass, and more. It can be a great add-on to nutrition coaching and helps track how your body composition is changing as you change what you eat.
Not interested in stepping on a scale or a scan? We got you! We love helping clients identify other non-scale goals and victories that track their progress and keep them moving forward.
Nutrition sessions are 30 minutes each. Clients might benefit from a single session, but typically see the best success with three or more sessions.
LIFE & MINDSET Coaching
Life Coaching is for the client who wants help tackling a challenge or achieving a big goal or navigating a significant transition in life. It goes deeper than the tactics of changing what you eat and when. It helps you understand and take charge of your mindset, emotions, actions, and results to improve or level up ANY area of your life.
You’ll emerge a different person with life-changing insights as we focus on evolving your identity into the person you need to become to achieve the results you want.
Life coaching is not therapy, though certain aspects of it may overlap. The main difference is that therapy tends to help someone who is struggling to function at a “normal” level on a daily basis, while coaching takes someone who is functioning well but wants to be even better (to strive) or tackle a specific challenge they’re facing (to stand strong).
Our coaches are experienced and professionally certified, and our coaching clients range from student athletes to busy parents to career professionals and executives.
We generally split life coaching into three categories although there may be overlap (for example, a career professional looking to build leadership skills might also focus on improving family relationships). The three categories are Life & Wellness Coaching, Mental Skills & Performance Coaching, and Executive Coaching.
