Join Us for a Yoga Workshop for Teens

Thursdays – March 12, 19, 26 – 4:15-5:15pm

Teenagers experience big emotions while also becoming more aware of who they are and how they show up in the world. This 3-session teen yoga workshop in Downingtown, PA, is designed to help middle schoolers and high schoolers slow down, tune in, and build the ability to regulate emotions through movement, breath, and focus.

Yoga gives teens a practical way to calm their nervous systems, connect to themselves, and feel more grounded in their bodies – skills that support confidence, emotional awareness, and resilience both on and off the mat.

Led by Joy Wawrzyniak, LCSW, a Stand Strong member, certified yoga instructor, and adolescent mental health therapist. She’s excited to offer this three-week Yoga series specifically for teens, combining movement, breath, and mindset in a way that’s accessible, empowering, and relevant to real life.

What We’ll Focus On

Week One: Find Your Core
This session uses core-focused poses to help teens shift attention out of mental noise and into their bodies. By learning to engage their core and notice physical sensations, teens build a stronger sense of stability, confidence, and self-awareness.

Week Two: Stand Your Ground
Here we build on core strength with stabilizing and balancing poses. Teens will practice staying steady, focused, and controlled – even when things feel challenging. The goal isn’t perfection but learning how to regain balance when life throws you off your game.

Week Three: Own Your Voice
In our final session, we shift from internal strength to outward expression. Using heart- and chest-opening poses, teens explore confidence, self-expression, and sharing their voice with people they trust, supported by a solid sense of grounding and self-awareness.

The Takeaway

This workshop offers teens simple, effective tools to manage emotions, build confidence, and feel more connected to themselves. The skills they practice here are meant to support everyday life – at school, in sports, in relationships, and during stressful moments.

FAQs

Is this therapy or counseling?

No. This is not a therapy session or group counseling. The workshop focuses on movement, breath, posture, and self-awareness. While it’s led by a licensed adolescent mental health therapist, the goal is to teach practical skills teens can use to regulate emotions and build confidence – not to provide therapy.

Does my teen need yoga experience?

Not at all. This program is designed for all experience levels. Movements are accessible, clearly coached, and focused on strength, balance, and body awareness rather than flexibility or advanced poses.

What if my teen isn’t “into yoga”?

That’s common and totally okay! This class is framed around strength, focus, and real-life skills, not traditional yoga culture. Teens don’t need to be flexible, quiet, or spiritual. They just need to show up willing to move and try.

How does this help with emotions?

Emotions show up in the body before they show up in behavior. By learning how to regulate breathing, posture, and physical tension, teens develop better control over stress, frustration, and overwhelm. These skills support emotional awareness without requiring teens to talk or share personal experiences.

Will my teen be asked to share personal information?

No. Sharing is optional and never required. The focus is on individual experience, movement, and skill-building. Teens can participate fully without speaking in front of the group.

How is this different from a regular yoga class?

This workshop is intentionally structured around emotional regulation, confidence, and self-awareness. Each session builds on the last, with specific themes and skills designed for teens navigating stress, pressure, and self-confidence challenges.

Is this appropriate for athletes?

Absolutely! Many of the skills taught – focus, balance, body awareness, and emotional regulation – directly support athletic performance. This program complements sports training by helping teens stay calm, confident, and mentally steady under pressure.

What age range is this for?

This workshop is best suited for middle school and high school–aged teens, 12-18 years old. If you’re unsure whether it’s a fit for your child, we’re happy to help you decide. Contact Lindsay at info@standstrongtc.com

What should my teen expect after the program?

Parents often notice improved confidence, better stress management, and increased body awareness. Teens leave with tools they can use at school, in sports, and in everyday situations when emotions run high.
